Pelican’s Pick of the Week

As predicted Stephen King’s book “11/22/63” is the number one best seller this week.   The elves have been busy decorating the bookstore for the upcoming Christmas season. “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” also jumped towards the top with the release of the movie.  The Swedish version came out earlier this year and was terrific!

Pelican’s Pick of the Week

We have been receiving great reviews on Stephen King’s new book.  The name of the books is “11/22/63”. Yes, strange name but look who we’re talking about.  The book is about a young man traveling back in time to change the Kennedy Assassination, but with Mr. Kings’ unique twist.

For the kids, out this week is the next book in the Wimpy Kid Series “Cabin Fever”,  a lot of anticipation on this one. Paolini fans will be reading the 4th book in the Inheritance Cycle Series “Inheritance”. Both due out this week!

And congratulations to Rich Ceratto who was elected as the new Mayor of Sunset Beach.

Pelican’s Pick of the Week

With the new Johnny Depp movie The Rum Diary coming out in theaters this week, it’s only fitting that we recommend the Best-selling Hunter S. Thompson novel that came out in 1998, even though it was written in the 1960s.  It is the story of an American journalist who goes to Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper there.  If you plan on seeing the film I would highly recommend reading the book first.

Also, new this week is Mindy Kaling’s (from TVs The Office) book titled “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns.)”  This is a hilarious book detailing her life as an Indian-American high school student to television writer and actor of The Office.  It’s an easy, comical read written in a similar style to Tina Fey’s Best-Seller “Bossy Pants,” (Another great read!)

Festival Time

Last weekend, one of our favorite local authors Jacqueline DeGroot was at River Fest in Downtown Wilmington, NC. She was promoting her books including Sunset Beach: A History.  She sent us a couple pictures and from the looks of things, it seems that she met a few pirates there.

It’s fall in the coastal area, and that means it’s festival time. What’s New This Week

Some excitement in our area this week! Wednesday the movie industry came to town and spent the day filming around the Ingram Planetarium. We understand they are filming a movie for the Hallmark Channel. We’ll let you know when it will be aired.

New this week is Sandra Brown’s “Lethal,” Lee Childs “The Affair,” and James Lee Burkes “ Feast Day of Fools”. Charles Frazier, who wrote “Cold Mountain” has released “Nightwoods” set in the 1950’s and 60’s. Unlike his previous 2 novels this one is a suspense.

With Halloween coming up we have stocked some really cute cards, and later this month we will have Thanksgiving greeting cards out. Christmas fiction is already starting to come in with many of your favorite romance authors.
