End of Summer Picks!
Jan Karon has released a new novel in her Father Tim series called, “Somewhere Safe With Somebody Good”. Lee Child also has a new book out and his favorite character, Jack Reacher, makes an appearance in it.
Things are staring to quiet down here at the beach. It’s a great time for bird watching and surf fishing (we’ve got some guides for it). These are indeed the lazy days of the end of summer. Come on down to the beach, the living is easy!

Marybeth Whalen’s New Book!
We are big fans of Marybeth Whalen’s here at Pelican Bookstore! She has done signings with us at Silver Coast Winery, and she writes about our beloved Sunset Beach. So, needless to say, we were ecstatic when we saw her new book was coming out soon. This one is called The Bridge Tender and like one of our favorites The Mailbox, this one is also set in Sunset Beach! Here’s the description from her blog:
“Emily must realize that her dreams didn’t have to die with her first love. When Emily Shaw, a young widow, learns that her late husband’s last surprise for her involves returning to Sunset Beach, North Carolina, to realize an old dream of theirs, she reluctantly embarks on a summer of discovery in the midst of grief. There, in the oasis of the beach community, she meets a host of townspeople with their own broken dreams and unexpected situations. As the island citizens divide over the fate of a nostalgic bridge, Emily happens upon a man who just may be the one to restore her faith in dreams, hope, and possibly love.”
