What We’re Reading

Often if you come into the bookstore we’ll give you a personalized recommendation or happily oblige to tell you what we’re reading at the moment, which sometimes can be several different books! Curse of working at a bookstore, I suppose. Well, I’ve just finished reading Pat Conroy’s The Death of Santini: The Story of a Father and His Son. It is great! If you came in the bookstore this is absolutely what I would tell you to read. (Always listen to people who work in bookstores if you want great book advice!)

The book is a memoir detailing his relationship with his father, a hardened Marine Corps Fighter Pilot and the inspiration for one of his novels The Great Santini. Their relationship is nothing short of strained, but in the final years of his father’s life he manages to find common ground with the man he spent most of his life hating.

It’s a moving and incredibly well-written book. So if you are looking for a book, read this. It’s that simple, listen to the book ladies.
