Local Author & Kindred Spirit Mailbox on CBS News!

Last night the CBS Evening News aired a feature on a local landmark, the Kindred Spirit Mailbox. They interviewed Frank Nesmith, who originally put up the mailbox over 30 years ago with his then-girlfriend, and author Jacqueline DeGroot. DeGroot’s books often feature the famed mailbox as well as other local landmarks. We sell all of Jacqueline’s books at the bookstore.

Since the “Kindred Spirit” and Frank are unable to take the 1.5 mile trek to the mailbox often, DeGroot volunteers to replace the notebooks inside, and ensure the safe keeping of the secrets and messages left with the mailbox. The story of the mailbox is a unique one, and one that brings a lot of pride to Sunset Beach. People have traveled far and wide to experience the few moments of tranquillity that await at the mailbox.

I saw it, as she is a friend on my facebook. It’s too bad they did not mention Sunset Beach, though.
