Karen White Signing Today at 5pm!

Today is the day! Author Karen White will be here today, Friday, October 25th from 5 pm to 7 pm at Silver Coast Winery, and she will read and sign copies of her newest book The Christmas Spirits on Tradd Street.

Admission is $7.50 and includes a glass of wine (or water or soda) and light hors d’oeuvres. Silver Coast Winery is located at 6680 Barbeque Rd NW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC.

About The Christmas Spirts on Tradd Street

The Christmas spirit is overtaking Tradd Street with a vengeance in this festive new novel in the New York Times bestselling series by Karen White.

Melanie Trenholm should be anticipating Christmas with nothing but joy—after all, it’s only the second Christmas she and her husband, Jack, will celebrate with their twin toddlers. But the ongoing excavation of the centuries-old cistern in the garden of her historic Tradd Street home has been a huge millstone, both financially and aesthetically. Local students are thrilled by the possibility of unearthing more Colonial-era artifacts at the cistern, but Melanie is concerned by the ghosts connected to it that have suddenly invaded her life and her house—and at least one of them is definitely not filled with holiday cheer….

And these relics aren’t the only precious artifacts for which people are searching. A past adversary is convinced there is a long-lost Revolutionary War treasure buried somewhere on the property Melanie inherited—untold riches rumored to have been brought over from France by the Marquis de Lafayette himself and intended to help the Colonial war effort. It’s a treasure literally fit for a king, and there have been whispers throughout history that many have already killed—and died—for it. And now someone will stop at nothing to possess it—even if it means destroying everything Melanie and Jack hold dear.

Another Lost Author — Goodbye, Anne

Southern literary fiction has taken another direct hit this month with the passing of Anne Rivers Siddons on  September 11th. Ms. Siddons works, including ‘Up Island’, ‘The Girls of August’ ‘Burnt Mountain’, and ‘Peachtree Road’  to name a few, always gave her readers something to ponder. First Dottie (9/2/19), and now Anne. Goodnight, ladies – we’re sad to see you go.

Summer’s Best-Sellers!

Hurricane Dorian surely brought an unwelcome ending to our wonderful summer season. As we look forward to autumn and cooler temperatures (minus the mosquitoes, thank you!), we thought our customers might be interested to know what our bestsellers were this summer.

In nonfiction, ‘Becoming’ by Michelle Obama  ‘Educated’ by Tara Westover and ‘The Pioneers’ by David McCullough  topped the list; while in fiction, we had many titles: ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens, ‘The Summer Guests’ by Mary Alice Monroe, ‘The Summer of ‘69 ’by Elin Hilderbrand, ‘Queen Bee’ by Dorothea Benton Frank, ‘Becoming Mrs. Lewis’ by Patti C. Henry, ‘Sunset Beach’ by Mary Kay Andrews, ‘The Favorite Daughter’ by Patti Callahan and The ‘Outsider’ by Stephen King.

New fall releases are coming in daily. Come by and check them out!

Goodbye, Dottie…

The Pelican Bookstore staff was saddened this week to learn of the death of Dorothea Benton (Dottie) Frank. Dottie Frank was a customer favorite, and could always be counted on to produce great summer reads for beachgoers.

She has come to our area several times for our author talk series at Silver Coast Winery. Our condolences go out to her family and friends. You will be missed, Queen “D”.
