Summer Reflections

Now that Fall is here and the colder weather is starting to settle in, it’s the perfect time to reflect back on summer and remember what a great season we had. Some of our favorite authors including Mary Alice Monroe, Dorthea Benton Frank, Diane Chamberlain paid us a visit, and we had some new authors like Valerie Tripp. We read some great books, met some wonderful people, and even managed to see the beach a few times. Here’s a video of some of our favorite summer memories.

Halloween Reads!

It’s Halloween and the time has come to buy that perfect scary read. We suggest Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining. (Also, plenty of Halloween candy!)

What We’re Reading

Often if you come into the bookstore we’ll give you a personalized recommendation or happily oblige to tell you what we’re reading at the moment, which sometimes can be several different books! Curse of working at a bookstore, I suppose. Well, I’ve just finished reading Pat Conroy’s The Death of Santini: The Story of a Father and His Son. It is great! If you came in the bookstore this is absolutely what I would tell you to read. (Always listen to people who work in bookstores if you want great book advice!)

The book is a memoir detailing his relationship with his father, a hardened Marine Corps Fighter Pilot and the inspiration for one of his novels The Great Santini. Their relationship is nothing short of strained, but in the final years of his father’s life he manages to find common ground with the man he spent most of his life hating.

It’s a moving and incredibly well-written book. So if you are looking for a book, read this. It’s that simple, listen to the book ladies.

A Big Week for Books!

There’s a lot happening in the book world this week.  Wally Lamb releases “We are Water”,  he’s a phenomenal writer and one of our favorites.  Then John Grisham publishes “Sycamore Row”  where Jake Brigance is the main character again, as he was in “A Time To Kill”.  And yes, we’ve stocked up on a “Time To Kill” if you want to refresh your memory.

Brad Meltzer tries his hand at non-fiction with “History Decoded: 10 Greatest Conspiracies of Our Time”  and Donna Tartt releases “The Goldfinch”–remember, she wrote  “The Secret History.”

And for our fantasy fans, Veronica Roth releases the third in her Divergent Series “Allegiant.”  Wow, what a week!!

A Few New Ones For You!

Just finished reading The Husbands Secret by Liane Moriarty, it’s a great story set in Australia. It’s reminiscent of a cross between Jodi Picoult and Kate Morton. Also, out this week is Robyn Carr’s The Hero, A Thunder Point Novel. If you liked last year’s Best Selling Gone Girl, give  A.S.A Harrison’s The Silent Wife a try. These last sweet days of summer are here, it’s a great chance to get some reading in!

More New Books! (Just What We Love to Hear!)

There has been a lot of press about J.K. Rowling using a  pseudonym (Robert Galbraith) in writing her new novel Cuckoo’s Calling. We will have the book in our store hopefully by the 5th of August. Because of the increase in demand it has gone for a second printing. The book is a mystery that introduces a London private investigator named Cormoran Strike. A second in the series will be out next Summer.

Some other new books we are looking forward to new out this week are The Highway by C.J. Box, and Alex Cross, Run by James Patterson goes to paper.
